What's the line between wearing too little and "lacking a fashion sense"? What's the line between having too much make up on and being too unkempt for a lady? Who is to define those lines? Everyone else, except yourself.
Social media is a huge messed up place. I believe a lot of people have parents who have this bunch of really close "Karen friends" where they go "wah so and so did what". Social media nowadays is literally just that, but a thousand times magnified. Instead of comparing lives with the people we know, unconsciously we compare ourselves to the glamorous lives others are living, and we start to mimic them. However, we don't know what they're going through beyond their news feeds. People put the best of their lives on social media, I mean, don't you? For all you know, there might be people looking at your posts and wishing to live your life.
"Wow, you've changed. You weren't like that before." We hear that very often, but most of the time, I don't think he/she changed, perhaps you've just never seen that side of him/her. I'm not a very feminine girl, but there are times I want to dress up; I don't like writing essays, but you're reading one of mine; I don't have an artistic mind, but I play the piano; I'm still "the nerd", but I socialise too (at least I try to). We're just living, breathing paradoxes. But the world isn't a very friendly place. When you behave differently from the stereotype people assign to you, what you get are raised eyebrows. I do that to people too, it's only second nature, but I try not to. We need to learn to ignore those, but it's very much easier said than done when you don't even know who you are. Growing up means having identity crises. There will always be times where other people's opinions get so loud they drown out yours. All the time, in fact. That's why there's a small part of me that enjoys exam periods for the fact that everyone is just minding their own business.
Some people think I've changed because I left home for college. No, I changed because I graduated from high school. You know how those school rules confine you. Most of them don't even make sense. ( I hope I'm safe for saying this ) In fact, I didn't even change, I just got some new clothes.
I don't think there's much we can do except changing our own mindsets. It's just a huge complicated world that is hard to deal with, but I guess it's a tough process we'll have to learn for ourselves.
